Are pro fight gloves good for heavybag use?
I'm thinking about getting some 10 oz pro fight gloves for training. I don't need them to spar. I know I can use them for mittwork and the double end bag, but are they good for the heavybag?
Using smaller gloves can improve your punching form. Make you more accurate. But if you where using 10oz pro fight gloves for training I suggest getting some gloves that are known for good padding. I have seen videos and pics of Pacquiao using 8-10oz Winning gloves for mitts, dbl end bag, and bagwork. But he uses Winning gloves which are known for having the best padding.
But maybe after a while if you use 10oz gloves for heavybag work they will most likely mess up the padding in your gloves. I say using 10oz gloves for mitts/dbl end bag is good enough to improve your form and just use 14/16 oz for heavybag. You will see your improvement in your punching form when you use heavier gloves on the heavybag if you use 10oz one for mitts/dbl end bag.
So I say buy some cheap pro fight gloves just for mitts/dbl end bag and use regular training gloves for heavybag work. Since you improved your form with small gloves it will show when you put on the bigger gloves to work on the heavybag. I have also seen people use 10oz amateur competition gloves on mitts/dbl end bag.
So no, 10oz pro gloves are probably not a good idea since the gloves would get messed up from taking too much damage from hitting a heavybag and you could mess up your hands. And if you only use 10oz gloves to train , when you put on 16oz gloves to spar you may have trouble because you are not used to the extra 6 ounces.
